I’ve rounded up some of my favourite pelmet scenes, starting with this gem of a peaceful room by @virginia_howard_design – this is a London flat where three bedrooms became two and the all important storage was created behind panelled doors.
Next is a children’s bedroom where @emmasherlockinteriors has combined curtains and pelmet with this fabulous ‘Mr Men’ wallpaper by @howe36bournestreet (Turned upside down, the paisley print is reminiscent of a character you would find in the Mr Men books by Roger Hargreaves…)The pelmet has a soft shape with a contrast binding – something I was asked to create in the next picture in my series.
Designed @eadieandcrole these pelmets feature a brush fringe detail as well as contrast binding which really shows off the shape, and echoes the details down the leading edge of the curtains and in the cushions. These were intricate and complicated to make – the process started with paper templates held up at the window to get the proportions exactly right, but all the hard work paid off and a unique finish achieved.
Pelmets can also be ‘soft’ – where no stiffening is needed and they act like a valance over the top of the curtains. Details like contrast binding and kick pleats bring subtle interest. I will be supplying plenty of these in a forthcoming project in a Clapham town house. Here we see a fab example of in a gorgeous design by @katharineparaviciniltd . The curtains with their soft pelmets act as a backdrop to the fabulous @lorfords sofas upholstered in @nicolefabredesigns fabric
Lastly another of my own projects – featured here a year or so ago, and as it’s one of my favourites I thought this was the ideal excuse to bring it out again. These soft pelmets with dress full length curtains in a master bedroom in Hampshire. Georgian architecture combined with @bennisonny floral fabric: heaven.
